Day 177: Look Beyond FANG

The Mother's Little Helper portfolio was UP today +$5,021.60 (+0.68%).

Overall GAIN YTD: +$162,214.77 (+27.78%)

According to CNN Money our benchmark index, the S&P 500 is up +8.79% Year To Date (

Jim Cramer made a great point today on CNBC. Basically he was asking his listeners look beyond the names we hear repeatedly in the media, like Facebook, Amazon, Netflix, Google, NVIDIA and AMD. The fact is there are a lot of great companies where we can find value and growth in other companies that are doing well.

Today the portfolio was lead higher by our healthcare stocks, in particular Omeros Corporation.

Fresh off an FDA approval OMER has rocketed up over 148% YTD. And close behind is Dynavax Technologies with an upcoming FDA review in August. DVAX is up nearly 128% YTD. Of the FANG stocks only Facebook is part of our portfolio. All the financial news is a buzz about NVIDIA and can't stop regurgitating the same stories about over valuation and greater fool trades. Jim Cramer has repeatedly told investors to let it cool off, but NVDA ranks only #12 in our portfolio.

Jim is right, there are lots of places to look for growth outside of the stock du jour short list. personally I would love to hear the CNBC team talk about Copart, Citrix Systems, NetEase or any of the other amazingly hot stocks that have all produced returns from 44% to 148%.

Stay Invested,

Clay Baker
